District Attorney Peter J. Skandalakis
elected state officer whose duty is to prosecute persons accused of any felony crime committed in the five counties of the Coweta Judicial Circuit. The Coweta Judicial
Circuit is located in west Georgia and is comprised of Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup Counties.
Along with a team of nineteen attorneys, the District Attorney is committed to quickly and aggressively prosecuting criminal activity.
Mr. Skandalakis has been the District Attorney of the Coweta Judicial Circuit of Georgia since 1991. He was an Assistant District Attorney from 1984
to 1987 and became the Chief Assistant District Attorney in 1987. He is proud to say he has worked with the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office
since graduation from law school.
Mr. Skandalakis earned his BA degree in Political Science in 1978 and his Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1981, both from the University of Georgia.
He received his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1984, also from the University of Georgia.
District Attorney Skandalakis supports the death penalty and the "two strikes" law and takes a hard-line on violent criminals. He works with the legislature
on important policy topics such as prisons, new laws, and parole issues. He has served as President of the Georgia District Attorney's Association.
District Attorney Skandalakis' strong public safety commitment has statewide impact. He initiated and lobbied for a criminal statute that was passed into law in 1992,
requiring life in prison for persons convicted of second and subsequent child molestation offenses. Another law he initiated and lobbied for was the increase of
punishment for a person convicted of concealing the death of another from a misdemeanor to a sentence of not less than one or no more than ten years in prison.
The law went into effect in July 1997.
District Attorney Skandalakis believes that victims should not be victimized a second time by the criminal justice system and has developed one of the best victim
support programs in the state. District Attorney Skandalakis is personally committed to the public safety of our citizens and in making the Coweta Judicial Circuit
a better and safer place in which to live and work.
